We had a very pleasant tasting at Promontory. I went in expecting big over ripe cabernet given its hype but it was pleasantly restrained, very well balanced, and quite precise. Reminded me of a Chateaux Margaux I once had. It punched at that level. Lots of herbaceous notes and some pencil led on top of a core of dark fruit. Sorry, terrible notes. I was trying to be a good host.
We tried the 2017, the 2010, and the 2023 out of barrel. This is all from memory but the 2010 was notably more open and complex, and the 2023 should be a banger. Brilliant structure and already good polish.
I'm curious what people thought of the 2022 out of barrel when they tried it last year? It's not a great vintage but I think promontory might have pulled it off?
Obviously the issue with this winery is the prices, not the quality.
