Hey everyone! I recently picked up this bottle from a local store, as i intend to gift it to my grandpa who shares birthyear with it! I am still new to wine tho, and its my first encounter with both a Rivesaltes, and such an old wine in general.

I was wondering if i should have some expectations or preparations in place incase He wants to open it on his birthday?

There’s not much to do. You can bring it chilled – take it out of the fridge when you leave home and it’ll probably warm up to just about the right temperature by the time you get there (12-14°C). That’s about it. Like many of these late-bottled, late-released fortifies wines it’s really not finicky at all!

If you search for “Rivesaltes” among my comments you’ll find some more extensive notes I’ve written previously.

All the best to your grandfather!

Well, it’s a dessert wine, but old Rivesaltes have never come across overly sweet to me, nutty and caramel notes are common.

    Should be a fun drink

  3. Oh no, there’s no tasting notes. The mods surely won’t like this!

Very cool bottle though. Congrats to you and your grandfather.

Rivesaltes is one of the top five wines I’ve ever tried (sorry Bordeaux, Burgubdy, and Champaign). Bulletproof and will last forever, and in my opinion it tops Port, Sherry, and Madeira.
