Previously I had some art up that I hated. Then I had Christmas stuff. I have a dinner party and just hate this blank wall! My goal is to paint a mural there and I thought I’d get to it by now 🫠

Any ideas?

And yes, I hate how it is placed in relation to that window but it’s the only layout that works.

Go to Target or Homegoods and buy a cheap piece as a panic placeholder until you can do what you want to do with the space. I’m not sure what you can do in half a day other than that

I wouldn’t worry about the wall. Just fluff up the cushions and remove pillows so people can sit

The real solution is fine a piece of art that you like before your dinner party. But what time constraints that may not be doable. Put up the old artwork that you don’t care for just for the one evening.

Hang up something that will show what you’re intending on doing. Painters tape always gets people interested and asking what your plans are. It’s my favorite way to show people “I don’t have had taste, I just haven’t got the time to complete my projects”. I taped up future wall mouldings, china cabinets, windows and people always get excited and ask questions.

Also, it’s your house. They should be grateful you’re hosting them for a party.

  6. A handmade sign with tape that says “in progress” YOU are the dinner party, not your art. 🙂

Either nothing or a quick trip to homegoods or a similar store for some art/maybe wall sconces

Assuming dinner guests arrive around 6, And you have some prep work to do for the dinner itself, you really don’t have time to do anything except purchase. If I were you, I would go to an antique store or thrift store. They almost always have large framed art and just get something, the most quirky thing they have. Or a large framed mirror would do as well. Boring but safe.

If there is a craft store within 10-15 minutes, you’d probably have time to do a Jackson Pollock kind of splatter paint and dry it with a hairdryer. The crafts store will have stretched canvas on frames ready for paint. Get 2 of them in case you really hate the first one you do.
Go to the paint aisle of said store and get jars of acrylic paint in 3 colors plus a jar of black You can use to custom tint. But there’s a Massive chance you wildly underestimate how long this all takes and leaves you a paint-covered mess right as guests arrive.

But you absolutely do not need to cover this, it looks fine as is. (Especially since you have a very William Morris floral themed with your area rug and throw pillow, that does not jive with modern art.)

    Nothing. Your company doesn’t care.

Appetizers and drinks will draw guests’ attention away from this wall.
