Hey all! We are planning to upgrade our first kitchen ever. First time home buyers here!
I do not like a lot in this kitchen-
1. Cabinetry color (even though it matches our golden retriever’s shades lol)
Stressed to paint over them and getting wood damaged and needing to paint ever after
2. Appliances!
3. Flooring
If we had 1-2k budget and a lot of diy spirit, how should we optimize?
Tia!

The cabinets look like they are in good shape. I’d start appliances. Stove, fridge, dishwasher? Will eat that budget. If your not replacing appliances check into someone who can’t paint or even stain your cabinets another color.
After days of research, i painted my cabinets white. It’s important that you do not skip steps in prep work.
1. Sand, clean, fill wood grain with a watered down plaster, or else the wood grain will show through the paint you use. Sand and clean a final time with some tsp before you paint.
2. Choose a good paint that is designed for cabinets. I used Advance paint by benjamin moore more because it self levels because of how thin it is. Emerald by sherwin williams is another paint i kept seeing getting recommended during my research.
3. Application: if you want to save 300-400 dollars, then you can brush on the paint, but it will take a while. If you plan on doing more diy stuff for your new to you home i recomend getting an airless paint sprayer.
I ended up removing all the doors and drawyers and removed the hardware and painted/sanded them in my garage. I bought a huge sheet of plastic and seperated the kitchen from the rest of the house so i could spray it and taped off all the walls, interior of cabinets, and counter tops. I bought new hardware to update the look of the doors and drawers. I also made them all softclose. Do your research on youtube, and you will find a ton of instructional videos to help you out. Paint+sprayer+materials cost me around 700. Took a week and a half. Goodluck 😃
Your kitchen looks clean and functional, is there something wrong with the appliances, ie are they working? With only a $1000 and given how you hate everyth8ng about this kitchen, I would t bother doing anything until you need to or you get more money. Upgrading the lights might not be too expensive, paint the walls
I’d suggest maybe trying some new hardware instead of painting the cabinets? They look nice imo, if you had to splurge in one area I’d go for new countertops and then save for new appliances
I’d paint the walls and add whatever accessories you need before I changed anything bigger.
