Lived here 4 years. Such an odd kitchen. The floating shelves. The track lighting. The yucky grout tile countertops. The different ceiling heights. The weird jutting out bits of the wall all over the place. The breakfast bar no one eats at. I’m going to renovate it, but that project is still a long way off. I’m tired of feeling blah when I’m in here. Took everything out to get a fresh perspective, (see everything on the table 😄) thought I’d see if Reddit had any ideas while I was at it. The microwave on the counter has to stay because the one above the stove has never worked (there’s still a post-it from the previous owners with “this microwave is BROKEN” on it). My daughter suggested I move it to the laundry room which is just to the left of the stove. Any decorative thoughts or suggestions would be soooo helpful. I’m thinking moody vibes, earth tones (black, brown, olive, etc.,), functional, with some houseplants? The only appliances (aside from temp microwave) I keep on the counter are a coffee maker, espresso maker, toaster and toaster oven. I cook a lot, so I want some prep counter space, but just these few appliances seem to take up so much space.
I’ve been thinking of just taking the frosted glass doors off the floating cabinets and putting some trailing houseplants in them. The pot rack is too low and too wide to actually hang pots on without hitting your head while working at the island. (The last picture is what it looked like when we bought it, so it’s not like the previous owners/home builders had some vision in mind I’m just not seeing, just for reference.) I just did a heavy purge of the upper cabinets over the stove area, so they’re about 50% empty. I don’t know if that’s relevant, just throwing it out there!)
Any suggestions??
