I am seeing loads of beautiful kitchens with seamless cooker hoods which blend into the cabinetry. My question is how do I get away with this as the distance required between the hob (induction) and hood is 650mm!
These images don’t look like they are 650mm above the counter top…

My opinion – not backed up by law / regulations – if you have a gas hob, the 750mm is understandable due to the presence of a naked flame. If you have an induction hob then the danger is significantly less. I personally wouldn’t be worried about having a hood closer than the recommended 650mm (I intend to install one soon at around 600mm). It’s no different to having a kettle under your cooker hood, of which there are no such recommendations / regulations. Just my 2p worth.

I’m a builder Iin the US. This may or may not apply. Here, the clearance required from the cooktop to the vent is either 30″ *or* whatever the manufacturer of the vent specifies. Motorized backdraft vents are 0″. Other vents that install flush in the ceiling are 60″. I’ve installed all of them with varying drgrees of success. I ask my clients what, how, and how often they cook and then recommend a vent hood. If your pan roasting 2-3 times a week you need a real extraction hood that is 4″ wider and deeper than your cooktop. Downdraft, backdraft, and ceiling flush mounts will be disappointing because they won’t capture a good portion of the effluent. They are fine for folks that are mostly making steam doing pasta and veg.
