Any thoughts on this kitchen? My interior designer just sent me for feedback.

The layout is super awkward to me, but are they just trying to find out if the style of the fixtures, etc. is something you like?

  2. Why is the hood so wide when only half is heat-making? Why is the fridge so far? Why is there a cart for the dishes like an after thought when there are shelves and cupboards? Also part of the shelving in the corner is useless since you can’t reach but they all seem to be full of useless crap anyway?

  3. I’m sorry, but walking basically through a dining room to get from the refrigerator to the stove? Why?

    That refrigerator is far away.

The dining table being in the kitchen is awkward. If it was connected to or was next to an island it ([example](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/b2/3b/b4/b23bb42cfd3ce15e29d60d1e4b336c62–white-kitchen-island-white-kitchens.jpg)) it might flow better.

This is a personal quirk, but I don’t like the empty space between the end of the countertops and the wall bump out. In this [example](https://hgtvhome.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/hgtv/fullset/2019/10/15/0/HWNCR111_After-Kitchen-2.JPG.rend.hgtvcom.616.411.suffix/1571182058684.jpeg) a built-in “transitions” the two spaces.

I don’t see a triangle for fridge, stove and sink. Maybe move those things!

This looks like a kitchen designed for someone who will never actually use their kitchen. There’s so little work space, the dining table is between the stove and refrigerator and will be in the way while preparing food. There’s so little useful storage and a cart for dishes when there’s so much wasted space for cabinets? The hood is enormous and looks weird extending over the counter space. Random hole for the microwave?

  7. I like the style aesthetically but it is a very impractical layout.

Fridge is way too far from work areas – as others have said the triangle of cooker, sink and fridge needs to be taken account of.

The double width extractor looks weird.

Personally, I prefer a stovetop with separate ovens that are mounted at shoulder height. In my view it’s far safer than bending down to get things out of the oven and it makes it easier to keep an eye on whatever is in the oven. It looks like you’ve got space to do that. Separate stovetop also means you can have large drawers directly beneath it for storing pans/utensils – my kitchen has this and it’s very nice.

Unless your set against an island, it looks like it would be feasible to have an island with stovetop, and more cupboards where the cooker is now. Potentially with ovens inserted there and the fridge. Could have a breakfast bar opposite the stovetop. Doing that would make the kitchen more practical whilst providing a casual eating space. Wouldn’t strictly be a triangle but would be more practical than the current layout.

I think the layout is alright, the fridge doesn’t seem too far away like some other people are commenting. I also think the hood seems excessively wide but if you’re going for a statement then it makes one. What I DO find strange is the wire rack to the left of the microwave, I’d have it just be more cupboards so there’s more countertop space and more storage.

Why is the tv halfway between the dining and living areas? I hope you didn’t pay this person a lot for these renders

Not a fan of having the dining table in the middle of the kitchen workspace.

That hood is too big, the table is too close to workstations, and no backsplash is begging for wall stains.

I will never understand why someone would want a white kitchen, especially if you have kids.

Hood is too wide (should only go over stove) and the table should be an island bc you have very limited perimeter prep space. Suggest also continuing the kitchen perimeter next to the stove so it touched the black wall with the art rather than have a plate cart there – it’s just wasted space. Would not do open shelving for your kitchen and instead turn those into cabinets because you don’t have much storage (I’m not hating on open shelving either, I have them. But I also have a lot of lower storage). The openings to the right of the fridge should have doors and be storage too (again you lack current storage) and also when you open the fridge, the door slams open (not everyone opens fridges nicely) and whatever sculptural items there would be affected. Also, don’t keep a microwave where you’ve placed it. Aside from it being unattractive bc the space isn’t flush, it’s just too low and it’s not even a drawer microwave so it makes no sense. Can you imagine the daily use of such a low microwave that isn’t even a drawer (let alone cleaning it)? You’d have to squat down to use it. So keep the microwave on the countertop, but as suggested, extend the countertop so it goes all the way to black wall with the painting.

Have sold cabinets for 25+ years. Most interior designers use kitchen designers. Those that don’t put out product like you have posted. I would use an Interior Designer that specializes in Kitchens or find a Kitchen & Bath designer.

You are going to hate how far away your fridge is. You are going to hate everytime you have to walk around that table to get to it. Those chairs are going to be pushed to the side (causing more hassle to get to the fridge) because you are going to be using the table as work space. That rug is not going to look that nice with spills and stains. It’s in a corner – awkward to move in. Where do you store anything – you either use the cupboards for food or for utensils so you have nowhere to put anything – yes, I saw the doors around the fridge. Those cupboards are way over there – how much are you going to use them because they are inconvient.

It looks ok in the pictures, but isn’t practical if you actually want to use it.

And why is everything beige? do you not like color? does your designer not like color?

(Edit: are those doors beside the fridge pantry doors or doors to other rooms? If to other rooms, then where are you supposed to store anything?)

First – you have a wonderful designer, I love the aesthetic!

    1) pull out pantry next to the fridge, open shelving is useless there

    2) microwave on the end of a cabinet run so use will not interfere with person cooking at the stovetop and space left for mw is too big – can fit two drawers under that thing

    3) that huge hood is not needed over a standard 30″ range and will be a huge waste of money, maybe a 30″ hood (max 36″ over 30″ range) and fill the extra space with overhead cabinets vs more open shelving

    4) that rolling cart looks cute but… who really uses that type of thing. This end of run area does not interfere with cooking/cleaning and would suit a separately functioning area depending on your lifestyle. Examples are: a) Type A lifestyle: coffee station with coffeemaker, cups, small fridge for cream, milk. b) Virtue-signaling Yoga lifestyle: smoothie station with blender, to-go cups, fridge/freezer drawers for milk, frozen fruit. c) Party lush – bar area with ice machine, shaker, glasses, wine/liquor.

    5) others have already commented on the fridge – it is unclear to me how far it is from the work area, but proximity to the garage for grocery hauling and the sink for food prep are the two main issues with fridge placement. To me, given the obvious constraints in this small space it looks like it is the best placement. The only thing I would consider is getting a smaller fridge to make room for a larger pantry, especially if you add an undercounter fridge elsewhere – see item #4.

6 Consider swapping the end cabinet next to the dishwasher close to the corner to give more prep space between the sink and range – where you need it most.

  17. BossRoss1983

Move the microwave and oven up and hide dishwasher behind cabinetry and is that the best place for the fridge?

  18. Eastiegirl333

Convince me the designer didn’t use AI.

  19. phrasingittw

I mean, are they looking for a design layout or just the colours. It’s weird how the dining table is where an island could be placed but ya I don’t know.

  20. reddit_chino

Great if you’ll have a staff and $250K.

Turn the table into a work island sink and replace plate cart with the fridge.
Change out hood to accommodate microwave like normal folks.

What’s the deal with closed off doors and living room combo?
The sofa is oriented for whiplash to watch tv.

Lone comment about the material for the counters: I would select a light colour instead of a dark one.
