New vintage from the one of my favourite sicilian producers, Aldo Viola. I absoloutely adore the Coccinella, and it’s fresh revisioning of Syrah.

100% Syrah from Alcamo, Sicily. Handpicked, fermented and aged 8 months in stainless steel. Unfiltered, unfined, no added sulphites.

This vintage came in a couple weeks ago, and needed some time to settle, and it has settled beautifully. The nose is full of smoke, bondfire, herbs and tobacco notes, that open up into a few more primary notes, mainly cassis. on the palette it shows it’s fruity and fresh character. The minerality powers through together with the high acidity to show some red and black berries, that further develop into black olives. The well structured tannins stand in contrast to the freshness, as well as the classic syrah black pepper note. Previous Coccinella’s have been a bit green to start, but this one is deff ready to drink! I have one from 2019 that i’m excited to try in a couple years time.
