Hello!,

i would appreciate input as to how to renovate this 90’s kitchen. Ideally I wouldn’t like to remove the tile if needed, but i am considering resurfacing and repainting the cabinets and building an island where the dining table is located.

Here are some pictures of my kitchen and kitchen designs I like: [https://imgur.com/a/WNR2Wq4](https://imgur.com/a/WNR2Wq4)

Thank You!

On a budget: new countertops and backsplash. Then flooring. Ultimately you need new cabinets (those are super dated). I would personally go with new appliance as well, the all white looks cheap to me, but they probably aren’t that old.

  2. Paint the cabinets. Don’t replace them.

Lay wood on top of those tiles.

    Lighting!!

    How?

Remove the cabinets, countertops, and tile and replace.

On a budget? New hardware, countertops, backsplash.

I’m a DIYer and your kitchen has good bones.

Keep the cabinets – they are solid – and paint them. You could do darker color on bottom cabinets and a lighter shade of same color on top cabinets. Update the cabinet hardware to something you love; it’s an affordable splurge. Under cabinet lighting is an upgrade that’s worth the money.

Once you decide on colors, get a new countertop in the same hue as bottom cabinets.

I only replace appliances when they break or become inefficient. I like white appliances; stainless steel is too much work to keep clean.

A pull down kitchen faucet is another upgrade that’s worth the money. And it modernizes the kitchen.

As for the tile floor, it’s in good condition and I’d deep clean and regrout it. You can also stencil it and achieve a whole new look to complement the cabinets.

A subway tile backsplash is classic. Splurge on decorative ceramic tile as an accent perhaps around the window or above the range.

  5. Curious as to what you decided to do?

I would have said to you that the cabinets you like are a contemporary look, frameless with in all likelyhood a factory finish. If you wanted to go that way then you are/were looking to replace the cabinetry.

Painting dated cabinet styles can help improve the look of your kitchen, but it’s really just changing the color palette. At least painting cabinets is usually less expensive. Other changes are usually upgrades, did you go with any specialty countertops?

Maybe in 5 years when the paint has faded, you might consider upgrading door/cabinets.
