I’m thinking of:
Paint of course.
Changing the doors on the cabinets.
Removing wall next to stove and putting an L island off it with bar stools.
And putting a window in the wall between kitchen and living room
Thanks guys. I know you get alot of it. Im willing to drop some $ for someone to actually help me pick colors and floors.

10k you could do a lot…sounds like your plans might be spending the money in the wrong places.
With 10k heres what Id do:
Replace the ceiling fan and light over the breakfast table…$500
Repaint walls a lighter color…$100
Tile Backspash…$500
New stainless appliances…$2000
[Nice butcher block island table](https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/red-barrel-studio-behling-prep-table-with-butcher-block-top-rdba2931.html)…$500
[Engineered Laminate Wood Floors](https://www.flooranddecor.com/laminate-flooring/latte-walnut-hand-scraped-water-resistant-laminate-100584523.html#prefn1=waterResistance&srule=Price+Low+to+High2&prefv1=Water+Resistant&start=15)…$750
Paint lower cabinets darker color (maybe satin black, dark blue or dark green, or a medium dark grey) …$100
Replace upper cabinets with new, white cabinets….angled corner cabinet, install new microwave over stove instead of a hood, put open shelves on wall adjacent to window instead of cabinets, box in fridge)…$1000
[Big “Farmhouse” Apron-Front Sink](https://www.google.com/search?q=two+tone+kitchen&client=firefox-b-1-d&sxsrf=ALeKk01gS56dooeETuKCtphUr7oxykmLsg:1589241268473&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjZ2JOKga3pAhXVVc0KHa3lBNYQ_AUoAXoECA8QAw&biw=1320&bih=728#imgrc=yoyQSx8ZwjOG7M) (you will need to modify the existing base cabinet and doors…dont get rid of the old uppers because you might be able to use these or parts of these to make that happen)…$500
New Countertops, Granite?…$1500
Total: $7500 + 15% overage = $8500
Edit: just some additional thoughts:
The reason I recommend all the above versus knocking out that little wall next to the stove and cutting a hole between the living room and dining room is you’re not really gaining anything from it as far as I can tell.
New appliances will really update your kitchen, be more efficient, and increase resale.
Adding the butcher block the the middle of the kitchen will give you a bit more counter space I think you are looking for in your idea of adding a peninsula and uses the space efficiently (right now your kitchen is essentially a wide hallway with all the counters against the wall)
I suggested painting the lower cabinets a Dark color to conceal any flaws (they are older, have exposed hinges, etc), and new white cabinets up top to keep your eyes up. Putting shelves next to the sink /window will give you a bit more space/won’t feel as cramped while doing dishes. It will also allow more natural light in because the light won’t tunneled between the cabinets. You will loose some cabinet space by doing this obviously, but you can still use these shelves for plates, mugs, etc; and if you do an angled corner cabinet it will have much more useable/accessible space than a typical corner cabinet.
For more ideas that’s thing will be a good fit for your remodel, search for “modern farmhouse kitchen”
Pop in a cool tile backsplash! Check out lilitiles.com they have some pretty ones [LiLi Cement Tiles](https://lilitile.com/)
Sorry if this is 2 seconds too late, but your dishwasher and stove should be set apart if possible. Not good to have those side by side
