Bought my first house! Would love remodel ideas. Last owner added a textured wall as a back splash (yuck) and dark linoleum floors. What would you do to this kitchen?

Personally, I love big, rectangular grey tiles and pretty sparkly accent tile in the backsplash.

Paint the cabinets a rich green, swap the floor for something similar to the dining room and paint the backsplash a light bluish gray

Put a medium sized island. Subway tile back splash.

Remove vinyl and tile floor, change bench colour (either buy a new one or remove/paint/reinstall) change wall colour to something with a bit more pop or paint white and use accessories to add colour.
Agree with changing the splashback area. You have a couple of good options there, you could tile it OR get a glass splashback behind the hob (these are great as you can get them custom coloured and they are not too expensive) then seratone tile the remaining area above the bench. Seratone tiles are like a laminated timber sheet which look like tiles but are cheaper and easier to install. Good for wet areas but can’t be used behind a oven/hob. I did this in my kitchen and I think it looks great (I suppose I am a bit bias’s).
I would leave the shelves at the height they are and use the space above them to store cook books, nick nacks for a bit of colour etc.
Tones of potential in it!

I’d build a big L shaped island that follows where those flood lights are on the ceiling. Then, I’d add deep drawers facing the kitchen interior from the island, and use that to replace all the upper cabinets in the kitchen. With the exception of the pantry. This will allow you to add counter style seating that backs into the living room, and maybe against that hallway – I can’t see how wide it its…
Then, I’d replace the upper cabinetry with big live edge, slab style shelving. I’d have the surface of the island match your countertop granite. That white/black granite goes with anything. Maybe a glass/stainless steel vent hood over the oven.
Lastly, I’d extend the hardwood into the kitchen. It will be a pain in the ass to do that, so you might consider hardwood looking tile. It won’t look the same, but the colors are available to match up, and it won’t look back because wood tile is in.

( I apologize for my weird grey MS Paint ET phone home looking counter stools. )
The ideas here are awesome! Also, maybe just live in it for a while. Figure out how you would like to work. If you find yourself halfway though chopping something thinking ‘gosh a bit space here or there would be awesome’ you are actually planning a renovation around habits and needs. Keep a notepad and note down ideas or even mini sketches for a little bit.

Change the boob light.

I would leave it alone and live in it for a year. Youโll learn so much about how you actually use the kitchen. You can use that time to wait for deals and collect your favorite ideas. Thatโs what Iโm doingโฆCONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Tear up the floor. Lose the green paint. Change out the light fixtures. Get a stainless stove.

You’re going to want more light on the counter tops. It’s so annoying to always have shadow on whatever you’re chopping.

New lighting, picket backsplash, new flooring, stainless flat top range
Add an island, change the light fixture, otherwise leave it as is.

I agree with extending the cabinets to the ceiling! Also, black appliances are a no for me. Instead of an island I really love the idea of a small table with a few chairs!! You could always do that before shelling out all of the money to put an island in!

UNDER CABINET LIGHTING!!
Modern patterned tile backsplash to add a punch of color. New tile floor. If you are up for it, adding an island with seating, it will help upgrade the kitchen.

Why donโt you have a refrigerator?
Call a kitchen designer and gut it.
Island or butchers block or something for sure
