Nose: white peach and mandarins are backed up by lemon curd and freshly baked bread
Palate: bubbles are quite fine, body is on the fuller side with solid acidity – notes of golden raisins, challah bread, honey, and grapefruit skin play with something stoney and floral – plush and harmonious, 2018 is quite represented as a vintage, and fades into a finish of cucumber, lemons and poppy seeds which coats the edges of the teeth and gums amply
Pretty tasty, and a respectable style of pet nat. I’ve been tasting through so many different pet nats at work recently, and they truly run the gambit from sharp and lively to soft and perfumey. At worst, they can be watery and instantly forgettable, and at best they can be eclectic and characterful and a refreshing and fun substitute for more conventional offerings.
This strikes me as having similarities to certain German spätburgunder blanc de noirs sekts I’ve enjoyed, in its richness and yeasty/bready qualities. Overall, a pleasant wine from a producer I love.
If anyone has the opportunity to buy from this producer, I can highly recommend his grauburgunder and his chasselas, right out of Baden – soft, delicate white wines with nuance and character, the last thing one might expect from the region. Cheers.
