Opened this first, and was sorely disappointed.
Pretty nice nose with a floral and lightly powdery quality, not enough experience with this variety to pin point it further. Fairly light in color with mainly dark red and brick colored tones.
On the palate however, this wine sucked. Lacked substantial acid, had a weird lactic note in the middle, watery finish. There was a bit of red fruit but it wasn’t strong enough to discern anything specifically. Not a particularly flavorful wine.

excuse the ridiculous glass for this, trying to get some air on it and see if it would improve, it did not.

Opened this after the disappointment with the Bobinet and I’m glad I did. It’s a great expression of gamay different than the beaujo expressions. Slight ester-y on the nose that might be typical of the variety or whole cluster fermentation, but it didn’t show up on the palate. Deep purple red in color, pretty dense and nearly opaque. Tasted of tart cherry and blackberry, with good acid and bit of bramble and earthiness. Tannin on the backend that held it all together. A great rustic feeling french natural that is easy to enjoy. I was sad to hear about Lemasson’s passing and will surely miss his wines in the future. Going back to grab a few more of these and see how they keep over the next few years.

Both of these bottles were in the low $20 range, and I’m sure you can guess which I would prefer for that price.

Love Lemasson’s wines. So sad to hear of his passing this year.

I agree 100% that the Bobinet Aunis is terrible. It tasted like potpourri to me and nothing else.
