We are building our kitchen and have a coffee nook with a pull down cabinet door.
The cabinet designer/salesman mentioned we can’t use an urn or machine that gives off steam because the moisture will ruin the cabinet.. What coffee machine should I be using?

Edit: This style of cabinet https://www.rockler.com/media/catalog/product/cache/5c5edcf249a74e99ece620285918bb9b/3/4/34829-04-1000.jpg

    Don’t use an appliance garage.

You’ll leave it open most of the time except when company is over. Throw stuff in there when they are and be embarrassed when they ask for coffee. Or leave the coffee machine on the counter and then it’s just a junk space.

The 90s called and want their appliance garage back.

You have to have steam to make a latte. No compromises.

It’s your kitchen. Build what you need for the way you live.

Considering that coffee is, generally, made with near-boiling water (98C/205F), hot-brewed coffee of any sort will produce steam. I suppose you could get yourself a cold-brew setup if you want to avoid steam?

If you’re set on the pull-down cabinet, I’d use it to store the coffee beans/filters/mugs (if you’re me, also: V60, scale, tea balls, assorted boxes of tea bags and loose tea) but have the actual coffee machine out in the open where the steam can escape.

Please kill the garage door in the kitchen. Get a nice looking coffee maker that you can keep out.

And yes steam will warp the shit out of your cabinet doors.

We made a coffee nook in our kitchen. But without the “garage”. The cabinets over the coffee countertop are 12 inch glass fronted cabinets with wine glasses and cocktail glasses on display. Then underneath is a tea drawer, cabinet and wine fridge.

My inlaws have one of these garages with an espresso machine and storage for glasses and mugs.

In my experience it is always open, never closed. If i where you guys i would build a nice looking shelf/rack/thingy that is always open. It solves the steam problem too.
