Looks like soapstone… mineral oil or baby oil should do the trick

Do not put baby oil on , unless you want everything you lay on it to taste like baby oil, food grade mineral oil

Also a good sealer will do that too and hold a shine longer

I found [this](https://bcsoapstone.com/care-and-maintenance/) to be really helpful but there are also companies that you can call in who will talk to you about how you use it, what you’re aiming for and how to care for/repair it as needed. Soapstone can develop a beautiful patina over time but it can also just as easily fade, looks like it wasn’t cared for well enough initially and has lead to quicker fading..
