I’ve tried numerous Broc Cellars blends up to now, and while they’ve been satisfying I haven’t been too motivated to try one of their single varietals. This was a rather impulsive buy but ultimately, I’m intrigued by it.
There was a slight, perfume-like rosy aroma to it when I first poured it but it seemed to taper off in about an hour or so. Otherwise there’s some scents of blue fruit, strawberry, and a touch of licorice. Taste-wise it matches up; blueberry, some currant, a little bit of allspice. Pretty light in body with very little tannin.
Overall it’s quite enjoyable and it’s a pleasant surprise for a maker that I usually associate with casual, drinkable, fruity bottles. Though this was one of their more modestly priced single varietals at $26 so if I paid 35$-40$ like some of their others, my opinion might be different. Still very drinkable but with a little more complexity by comparison. A good impulse buy, and definitely recommended.
