Our kitchen designer lays out our kitchens with 42″ between the island and other work areas. The only place that doesn’t work comfortably is the dishwasher. It needs to open into an aisle. I would set the island at 42″ to both countertops. Then increase it’s size to 48″ from the pantry. Also, increase the length to the middle of the door. The space at the end of the island is wasted currently.

I’d recommend a minimum 48” from the island if more than one person would be in the kitchen at the same time

This looks fine. I used to have a kitchen island that was 2′ x 4′. It was quite narrow, but super useful as a “landing pad” for groceries, food being prepped, etc. It’s not a gimongo island like you see in suburban mcmansions but is very handy in a working kitchen. I’ve seen lots of people try to squeeze huge islands into not-so-huge kitchens and IMHO it’s a terrible idea. You want comfortable clearance around the stove and dishwasher, you want easy flow of foot traffic, etc. That stuff should be prioritized over the size of the island.

I think you’re okay; my kitchen has 42″ between the island and the countertops and we don’t have any problems. The 4′ from the stove to the island is generous, though I can see why you might want that for easy oven access. At the very least, I’d extend your island another 3″ towards the oven, to make it an even 6′ length. And if you’re planning to use the island for a seating area, you can fit two or three barstools there comfortably.

Will the other cabinets be new or just island? If so, I’d extend the base cabinets by sink closer to door (with a stopper for just past 90), extend the island to meet that edge. Also, it looks like you are putting in a kneewall for island? I would do no knee wall, securing to floor.. and recommend 15″ deep cabinets facing inside, and 15″ deep bar or more cabinets on backside. Only 2 more inches for double sided use and will look a lot better than a painted wall.

You have enough room to give your countertop an overhang of 10 or 12″, which would allow for counter height stools. Three on the long side and one on the short side.

I think that island is fine, it’s small but it’s functional and you don’t want any less space around it. 4’ is pretty much the minimum I would recommend to the stove for opening the door comfortably and the other distances look fine for a small kitchen too.
Plus it’s almost 6’ long, so if you’re stood at it preparing veg, then you’ll have plenty space either side of you and a decent amount of counter space around the wall, especially if that sink is a functional workstation sink, with the second tier like these [Ruvati sink](https://www.ruvati.com/cp/workstation/) – there are a few companies who do sinks like that at didn’t price points now.
