Grauburgunder 2020 by Enderle & Moll Baden, Germany Bought in Peoples Wines, NYC – $34 Imported by Vom Boden Selections My friend Sean’s notes: I have been pulling this out of the fridge again & again – “should we do the grauburgunder?”; partly because it’s so fun to say grauburgunder, and partly because it was so hard to find the perfect moment for this special bottle. Rose, orange blossom, stone fruits, and lemon.
My notes (Páraic): I’m so glad that I don’t have to hear Sean say, “Should we do the grauburgunder” again, even though I actually really enjoyed this bottle. Really opened up over time to a beautiful glass of tannic citrus fruits. Kinda tastes like a screwdriver (my favourite brunch cocktail)?
(P.S. My friend and I have been trying to write more about the wine that we drink so if you have any thoughts on our writing it would be greatly appreciated)
Vagimas
I sell this bottle along with a host of others from E&M’s lineup! I have some mixed feelings on this particular bottling. I like the way this differs from the stylistic norm for GB in Germany, but I think the grape doesn’t quite do the producer’s style justice in the way their other grapes do.
Their Pinot Noir and Weißburgunder bottlings demonstrate aromatic complexity and texture / tension in a way that is naturally complemented by the relatively higher acidity found in both of those grapes.
This Grauburgunder always feels to me a bit lacking in acid and focus, and tends rather towards the fatter, more aromatic side of the spectrum.
By no means a bad wine and, again, always a treat to drink GB with a bit of character and verve to it.
