That’s an interesting house, but bizarre looking.

This reminds me of a lot of old school Malaysian houses. Those open bricks are great for ventilation and light but are going to attract a lot of gunk and permanent insect tenants.

Can’t wait for the comments to tell me why this is horrible

For context sometimes usually these are done in terrace houses where houses are wall to wall connected to each other.
So when you’re stuck between two houses you have no natural light in the centre of the house. If it’s a two story house you can’t really do a skylight either. Hence a central courtyard.

Why? Because they’re public housing back in the day. But now they’re quite expensive and sort after due to style and location. Hence you see a lot of expensive renovations in these type of houses.

I love homes with courtyards, big or small. A slice of nature inside a home

So humid. Rain also gets in. It looks like the place will flood during heavy rains. How does it get ventilated, especially in winter?

How does one maintain the garden without dirtying the house?

Very much instagram-minded, but potentially very impractical. It comes across as an attempt at building a [courtyard house](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Courtyard_house) but with a house that it too small to have one.

EDIT: LOL at the downvotes. Live in your dampness you fools.

Something like this has always been my dream

  8. On the one hand it’s awesome, on the other it’s Australia — heaven knows what type of creature could exist in that walkway.

This design feels ideal for cities where you might not have outdoor privacy

Edit: for me it’s a hot tub spot, a reading nook, somewhere to drink tea
