Wonderful producer out of Bairrada, Portugal specializing in pet nats, but also makes some amazing still whites and reds. This is a blend of 95% Fernao Pires and 5% Baga, from 30 year old vines. Grapes see 5 days skin maceration and is spontaneously fermented in stainless steel before bottling to complete fermentation. No liquor de tirage added, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Color is a muddied orange with a pink hue, and loads of sediment settled to the bottom of the bottle. Citrus is predominant on the nose with notes of orange and grapefruit peel, and lime. The citrus notes follow onto the palate along with notes of melon and juicy strawberry. The sediment goes a long way in giving it a really interesting and full mouthfeel. Good effervescence, not overwhelming, and has a really nice acidity to it.
Overall, really pleased with this wine, it’s delicious, and clocking in at 10.5% abv, it would be wonderful to enjoy on a hot summer day. If you can find a bottle nearby I’d definitely give it a try, or really anything from this producer.
