I can think of few structures with a more out-of-proportion beauty-to-use ratio than train stations in the US. All that splendour for four trains a day.
The acoustics and echo in this particular hall are *phenomenal*. I think the soundwaves from my kids’ stomping and stage-whispering in 2011 are probably still reverberating around in there.
Thankfully, it was restored instead. Beautiful building. made a great backdrop for the NFL draft this year too.

It’s more beautiful in person. My grandparents came off the train in KC from NY during their 1928 immigration from rural Ireland to KC. My grandmother said she never saw anything more beautiful in her life than the moment they entered the Great Hall of that train station.
