Kolonia 52, run by Annamaria Torok and Attila Francisti, is high on my list of winemakers to keep on your radar. Nestled in on Szent Gyorgy mountain, on the north shore of Lake Balaton Hungary, 2021 was the pair’s first-ever vintage. Despite the young age of Kolonia 52 Annamaria and Attila both have a lot of winemaking experience under their belts having worked at Gut Oggau, Heinrich, Horst Hummel, and Michael Gindl. Kolonia 52 is certified organic, and biodynamic practices are implemented in the vineyard.

Plazma is a skin-contact white, blending four typical grapes grown in Hungary: Juhfark, Furmint, Harslevelu, and Olaszrizling (Welschriesling). Each of the grapes was fermented, aged differently, and blended 2 days before bottling. No fining, filtering or additional were added. Plazma was properly electric. The short maceration gave the wine just the right amount of body. Lots of stone fruit, minerality, and loads of fresh acidity come through.

  2. Sounds delicious! Love the backstory on the winemakers.

I love these guys! Tried their wines when they were in London a few months ago, always love being able to try the new wave of Hungarian winemakers
