Nose: minimal VA, slight cider-like brett, fermented raspberries, salted plum, strawberry, chalk, spring flowers, pomegranate, lemon pith, tied together by a harmonious, gentle funk
Palate: body is moderate, acid is bright and engaging, and there is a delicate tannic structure which solidifies the otherwise fresh wine’s longevity in the mouth and which builds upon a light effervescence – the wine is even fresher and more lively on the palate than in the nose, showing notes of red apple skin, roses, papaya, lemon, grapefruit, pomelo, and demonstrating a light spiced character backing things up (something along the lines of cardamom, lemon balm, and ever so slight vanilla bean) – the finish is carried by the tannic profile which sinks quietly but convincingly into the gums and tastes like strawberries and gravel, demonstrating staggering minerality and intensity
Conclusion: this 50/50 Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris blend offers everything I like out of a skin-contact natty bottling like this: fresh, juicy fruit and stunning herbaceousness. This bottle convincingly demonstrates the flexibility of the two varieties of Pinot, especially when approached creatively with regards to maceration and blending. I picked this up today for 16€ (!!!) from Weinskandal in Vienna, and am absolutely psyched about the value offered here. Wishing I had this available back home in Berlin, but I guess that’s kind of the point of holiday: engaging in simple pleasures not available at home.
Wishing you all a pleasant week ahead – cheers.

Had Durrmann at Rawwine back in 2018? and absolutely loved them. Haven’t had any since unfortunately. Awesome wines though, as is the case with a lot of Alsace.

I love their pinots. I visited them last summer and had a couple of hours chatting with Andre. Lovely bloke and I doubt there are many winemakers out there who take environmental sustainability so seriously (he was cooking lunch in a sun cooker when we were there). I brought back a selection of ’21 cuvees that have been settling in my cave since then which I should probably crack open and taste.
