Nothing like a shoe polish set to the smells and sounds of a public restroom

Sorry, but I find this quite ugly.

This is the opposite of what I expect to see on this sub.

I am not a fan.
It looks like the staff had a competition among themselves for fun to see who could come up with the most out of place, unsuitable, garish, colour-clashing idea for the decor, and somebody didn’t get the memo that it was a joke, and actually built it.
The floor and light fittings belong in one kind of room, everything else belongs in a different kind of room, in a different hotel. It is so bad, truly awful.
I hope they have the designer’s name up somewhere so people know who NOT to hire!

Getting a lot of Ministry of Magic vibes.

GOP’s favorite place.

For additional context, the hotel (and restroom) was opened in 1910. The design and inclusion of a shoe shine station wasn’t any sort of modern decision.
It’s an early example of art deco design that would become popular a decade later.

I’ve taken a piss in that bathroom. It’s pretty underwhelming considering at one point it was considered the #1 bathroom in America.

Way too much going on. Black, white, 3 different greens, black and white speckled *and* red.

Surprised this hasn’t been mentioned, but this is slightly underground in the basement of the hotel. Basements aren’t super common in middle TN because of all the rock in the ground here. The hermitage hotel is about a block away from the state capital, so there is a tunnel (now closed with a grate) that goes straight from the capital building into this bathroom, just off this bathroom are two private smoking rooms and a restaurant/bar. So it’s said a lot of legislative agreements were able to be worked out discretely in this hotel.
This hotel was also ground zero for suffragettes in getting Tennessee to ratify the 19th amendment.

Was this the one in Slumberland?

I hate this so much. The walls, floors, lights, black stalls, toilet paper on the door, shoe shine

At least the doors go all the way to the floor.

Please enjoy learning a little more about this 1930s era lavatory, sometimes called “America’s best bathroom”
Wtf lol
All it takes is one guy who just exited a nearby Taco Bell to ruin all of that.
